Also, remember that some time ago I beat Pokemon Red? Well, after that I had started playing Pokemon Gold, but had left it untouched for quite a while, I think the last gym leader I had beaten was the one with the normal type pokemons, the one with an overpowered cow pokemon and started crying when I beat her, I forgot the name.
Anyway, yesterday I started playing again, and got in some sort of trance. I was so addicted to the game, I spent the entire day beating it. And not only beating theJohto Gym Leaders, the Elite Four and the Champion, but after that I got access to the region of Kanto (where Pokemon Red takes place), so I went there to fight the gym leaders from Pokemon Red, getting a lot of nostalgia from it even though I had only played Red around 2 or 3 years ago.
I was surprised that Blue was the leader of the Viridian City, and he had tough pokemon, but by that point my team was already very powerful, so he wasn't too hard to beat.
After beating all eight Kanto gym leaders, I went to talk to Professor Oak and he gave me access to Mt. Silver, that area where even the wild pokemons are around level 40.
I was exploring the region, and there I encountered Red. What a battle. Seriously, no gym leader, nor the elite four, no one in the game posed such a challenge. I lost the first fight, so I had to go and level up my pokemon so I could try again. The second time, I managed to beat Red. Here's the pokemon team I beat him with, and thus my final pokemon party for Pokemon Gold:
Typhlosion: Level 66 (Starter Pokemon)
Pidgeot: Level 60
Nidoqueen: Level 60
Ampharos: Level 60
Kingler: Level 60
Weepingbell: Level 50
The battle was one of the most brutal pokemon battles I've experienced. All of Red's pokemon where in the 70-80 level range, so it was the only time I had a levels disadvantage. I had to be very smart with how I managed my pokemon, and in many occasions I had to sacrifice one of my weaker pokemon. I'd leave my weaker pokemon out to stall his while I used those turns to heal my strongest pokemon back to full health. It was a brutal battle, but I won, and wow, that was amazing. Well, now onto Generation III as soon as I get the chance.
Oh, nice!
I remember having a Pokémon phase when I was younger. Also I think everyone who played Gen II struggled against Whitney and that damn Miltank.
Whitney, that was her name! Yeah, that was pretty much the only gym leader that gave me a hard time. I have the habit of overgrinding my pokemon at times, but even then, I had to fight her at least three times to win that battle.
We talking about Pokemon here? I have been thinking about sharing this for some time now, so this is a great opportunity to do it.
I remember when I was younger, I only knew the first generation of Pokemon. I wasn't too interested in the series back then, because I was afraid it might be too complicated for me to understand, so pretty much the only exposure to the series I had was a few episodes of the anime, and maybe Pokemon GO. What really piqued my interest was the type chart, with the list of all type strengths/weaknesses, and when I saw many posts of characters from different series being given Pokemon types (main reason for my blog about IaLR characters having Pokemon types). It surprisingly didn't take long for me to memorize the entire chart, and that was even before I decided to try watching other YouTubers play different Pokemon games (because I can't buy them). And it turns out that Pokemon games are easier to understand than most RPGs I know, so that's a relief. The grinding does take a while though.
The Pokemon game I'm most familiar with now is Sword and Shield, but there are still many more games to explore in the series. It's a shame how much I've missed out in my childhood, especially with Pokemon being one of the most popular series in the history of video games.
For some reason, I kind of have an imagination of the Locked Room Gang having their own Pokemon spinoff, something like "Pokemon: Locked Room Edition". Some gang members would be regular Pokemon trainers, others would be gym leaders or even part of an Elite Four, and others would just be wild Pokemon waiting to be caught. It's something fun to think about.
Recently, I've also learnt that the Dark type actually refers to evil, not literal darkness. And by evil, I mean dirty fighting tactics, cheating moves, etc. This also pretty much explains the "good vs evil" reason that Fairy and Fighting types are super effective against Dark types. And that also means that there will be plenty of changes if I were to do an updated version of IaLR characters having Pokemon types. But I guess you learn something new every day.
Huh, that bit on dark types is new to me. Makes me think Athena would be a Fighting/Dark type now, but I dunno.
Nah, I still think Athena would be better off as a Fighting/Psychic type. Pretty sure she's not evil.
Is that supposed to be Hat Kid or...?
I think so, yeah.
Longest period of inactivity yet? Anyway, just here casually going back to editing pages again since I've got some time to kill.
I'm also considering changing headcanon voices and battle themes for some of my characters in the meantime.
